KENNETH G. TIMS
Ken is a retired Phoenix Police Department Commander. He graduated from Arizona
State University with Summa Cum Laude honors. While with the police department,
Ken was assigned to some of the most challenging units and projects requiring exceptional
planning and leadership skills. As a Sergeant, he assisted with the revision
of the Field Training Officer Program and oversaw the implementation, construction
and move of the property evidence room. Fifteen years later, both the training
program and evidence facility are still national models.
Promoted to Lieutenant, he was assigned to one of the department’s violent crimes
and missing person units and was instrumental in developing a new investigative
protocol with the Maricopa County and City Attorney Offices. The investigative
protocol revolutionized the manner in which domestic violence crimes were investigated
nationwide and served as the foundation for a family advocacy center.
Ken was later assigned to supervise the dismantling of International Drug Distribution
Organizations using sophisticated investigative techniques. Of significant
notoriety was the arrest of Mafia underboss, Sammy “the Bull” Gravano. Sammy
Gravano had admitted carrying out the “hits,” killing 19 people ordered by John
Gotti and while in the witness protection program started a national drug distribution
organization.
As a Commander assigned to the Drug Enforcement Bureau, Ken worked closely with
Presidential Cabinet Members, US Senators and high ranking federal law and prosecuting
officials to develop a National Model for the collocation of federal, state, and
city law enforcement officials into one joint drug investigative facility.
Of the 31 national High Intensity Drug Trafficking Administration facilities, the
Maricopa HIDTA continues to be one of the most productive and efficiently run facilities
in the US based on the legacy left behind by Commander Tims.
At the urging of his family, Ken retired from the police department after 20 years
of dedicated service to accept the challenge of developing Facings of America into
one of the finest tile and stone companies in the Southwest. Ken’s passion
for planning, organization, marketing, and leadership make him a perfect fit the
Grapevine Discovery Team where we use his talents for facilitation, planning, and
business management.
